Fabuleux Productions is proud to have discovered another local art talent in the form of Laveric who is a composer cum music producer. During the collaboration with Laveric for WEI WEI's CHU WEI song and MTV, in which Laveric also feature as the rapper, the signs are promising and the chemistry clicks in a way of never before.
Define the creativity in music composing, Fabuleux believe, Laveric will.
Let's find out more from our first resident music composer, Laveric
Firstly, congratulations to you on the success of releasing your song for Wei Wei's Chu Wei which was a pretty new genre of music in the local Chinese music scene. So, what makes you have the courage to venture into it?
It all started with a broken hard disk drive. 4 years of creative instincts all gone overnight. That was quite a dark period for me after losing so much. So that was then the birth of this song 'Reintroduce Myself' which mirrored my awful experience. Coincidently, Wei Wei was looking for a major change from her childhood singing career, which in fact does need a 360° breakout. So, the two of us joined force and there's really nothing about courage, it is more of a same passion.
And, are you satisfied of the end result?
End result? I can say the result was quite breathtaking and she really did put in a great effort. This song also signals my own breakthrough, which I would say not every market-oriented composer would do in Malaysia. Maybe this is due to I'm a self-learner composer who don't really care about genre!
What are the difficulties of producing a song that is 100% on your own production effort?
If I didn't have 100% power on my own production, that will only be my biggest difficulty! (Laugh) But I really got to say big thanks for my long time composing partner Jerr who is quite an amazing composer himself.
Who's your main influence on your music?
Wu Bai! He inspired me to write my own songs. I still remember my friends used to tease at me for listening to this “Ah Pek”! (Laugh) But I regard him as the god master. In my later stage composing, Black Eye Peas has an influence on my song's arranging. They (BEP) of course is just as amazing even back in their early days.
With the ease of Internet accessibility, the likes of MySpace, YouTube and thousands of music forums had been a way for the new talents to showcase their works and a shot to the fame. Is this a bless or rather ruin out the quality of the music produced?
Now, the threat of piracy and illegal downloading...
I'm totally neutral on this issue! Illegal or not is not for me to define or comment. I put my greatest effort and hearts into my productions, and your ear would be my listener. So, let the listeners decide my songs worth zero or 100 marks.
So, can we earn a living by becoming a music composer?
You ask the wrong guy! Ha! (Info: Laveric actually works in a local plastic factory) In truth, you must know yourself well to smooth out the situation. If you are into it as an interest, you must also bear in mind the expectations will always varies. There will be a so called 'marketing sense' in music industry, where it is impossible to expect everyone loves your songs, even some don't like Christmas songs! Ha!
There's a stark gap between the local Chinese indie music and local English indie band in terms of recognition and following. Why is that?
Everything starts with a way. It's the same with the music road. When music tones starts to make sense, and then people started to compose it with lyrics, then into different languages, slowly creating a different sub-industries we like to call them as Western or Eastern styles. In the so-called Chinese music scene, ballad songs are crowding the field. Whenever there's an alternative genre like funk or electronic, people must have said we, Chinese composers, are the copier of Westerners. We will always lack behind the English, it is an inconvenient truth.
Any chance of composing an English song in the near future?
I'll let you know 'in the future'! Ha!

Bahasa Melayu
Hidup Bersama
Bahasa Melayu
Tapi Bila Kita Dewasa
Bahasa Melayu
Aku ingat nak kawan dengan kamu
Mari kita joget teman teman
Sepatutnya siapa salah bagi saya tahu apa jadi apa salah sekarang
Lokasi
Aku cintamu bahasa melayu
Kini saya tahu macam mana guna bahasa melayu
Bahasa Melayu
Aku ingat nak kawan dengan kamu
Mari kita joget teman teman
Sepatutnya siapa salah bagi saya tahu apa jadi apa salah sekarang
